OSTEOARTHRITIS
Osteoarthritis is a disease of joints that effects mainly the knees and hips. However, it can also affect other joints like joints of feet, toes, hands, fingers, elbows, shoulders and spine.
In osteoarthritis, the cartilage in the joints worn out. Cartilage is known as “shock absorber” of the joints and acts as an elastic pad that can cushion blows from the outside and distribute them evenly across the joints.
In order to prevent the bones from rubbing against each other during movement, the ends of the bones are covered with cartilage. Due to osteoarthritis, a damaged joints cartilage become increasingly thin overtime and hence more susceptible to injury. In the final stage, the cartilage vanished and adjacent bones are exposed and rub against each other, causing extreme pain and restrict movement. This result in damage to adjacent bones, muscles, capsule and ligaments.
Osteoarthritis keep progressing over the years and often there are pain free and painful inflammatory phases. In the late stage of osteoarthritis, there is destruction of the joint which result in permanent pain and restricted mobility which adversely affects everyday life and hence reduces the quality of life of affected person.

Stem cells are present in almost all the tissues and organs of the human body where they make new cells and also repair any damage in the body. The discovery of stem cells in human fat tissue fueled the development of many new possibilities of regenerative medicine. It has given hope for new treatment options for many acute and chronic diseases like heart attack, diabetes, improvement in bone, joints, and also healing of wounds, etc.
In this procedure, liposuction is done to isolate adipose tissue, and later stem cells are isolated using an automated system for retrieval of maximum live cells. The cells are injected into the knee to repair the damaged cartilage. Hundreds of studies have shown that patient improves gradually with loss of pain and also her mobility improves.
